9-Ball Tournament Rules

GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP SHALL PREVAIL! Disputes are to be avoided. If you don't know, ask the referee before shooting. Call the referee on close shots BEFORE the shot is taken. Once the balls are shot, it is impossible to tell where the balls were before they were shot, therefore disputes may arise. Example: It is too late to tell if the cue ball was above or below the headline once the cue ball has been shot.

Format

  1. Double elimination
  2. Championship match - Three out of five, one match online.
  3. All other matches are two out of three.

General rules

  1. Coin toss for first break.
  2. No safety break.
  3. Winner breaks next game.
  4. If your opponent is a NO SHOW, notify the tourney table.
  5. Match WINNER must report win to the tourney table IMMEDIATELY after a match.
  6. Jump sticks are illegal.
  7. Wedged balls - if two balls are wedged in lip of pocket and removing either ball causes the other ball to fall in, both balls are pocketed.

Standard fouls

  1. Cue ball fouls only (if the object ball leaves the table, does not constitute a foul).
  2. Cue ball in hand for fouled except break fouls.
  3. Cue ball behind headline if foul was on break shot.
  4. Spot all object balls made on foul shouts.
  5. Push cue is a foul - shooting down or away is legal.
  6. Scoop shots are foul, jump shots are legal. Shoot down or away.
  7. Object ball NO foul accidentally touching a stationary object ball during the shot is not a foul. If the accident has no outcome on the shot.
  8. Incoming player has option on restoring disturbed balls.
  9. Object ball fouls if accidentally touched disturbed cant acts moving balls during shot, it is a foul.
  10. If moving balls partly pass into region originally occupied by disturbed ball it is a foul.
  11. No rail if no object ball is pocketed, failure to drive the cue ball or some object ball to a rail after the cue ball contacts the object ball is a foul.
  12. Frozen rail does not count for object ball. Both players must agree the ball is frozen before the shot is taken.

Serious foul

  1. Three consecutive fouls is an automatic loss of game. If your opponent has two fouls, notify him on his next turn, before he shoots, that he has two fouls.
  2. Concession - a player can concede to lose the game. Example: Unscrewing jointed cue us a concession.

Shot clock rule

  1. If the tournament director notices that a certain person is delaying the tournament (IE, taking too long to shoot, stalling, etc.), he may call the shot clock on any match involving said player.
  2. There will be a 60 second shot clock applied to every shot from BOTH players involved in said match.
  3. The clock starts when a player APPROACHES the table to shoot, not when the other player finishes his shot.

No practicing on tournament tables

  1. There is to be no practicing on tournament tables DURING the tournament.
  2. Everyone is allocated 30 minutes to practice for FREE on tournament tables prior to the start of the tournament.
  3. Failure to comply with this rule will result in IMMEDIATE disqualification.
